From 1 February 2022, the DVSA has updated its Enforcement Sanctions Policy and changed the way in which it enforces attempts to conceal a vehicle number plate. This follows the DVSA becoming aware that a minority of operators are deliberately attempting to conceal their number plates from identification.
Where DVSA believe an attempt to conceal a number plate has been made, they will now:
- issue an ‘S’ marked prohibition
- issue either an immediate or delayed prohibition and a £100 fixed penalty notice
- submit a report to the Courts or Traffic Commissioners
- retain fraudulent number plates as evidence for any future investigation
