Scam letters, emails and calls claiming to be from Companies House

Companies House have had reports of suspicious letters, emails and calls claiming to be from Companies House. Recipients are being asked for a number of things including:

  • the requirement to make payment for Enhanced Web Filing Access;
  • payment for late filing penalties over the phone;
  • authentification codes;
  • directors’ details due to discrepancies.

Companies House will not normally ask you for any of these in this manner.  Guidance on how to determine if what you are being asked is legitimate, what to do if you think you’ve spotted a scam pretending to be from Companies House and examples of scam emails, letters and telephone calls can be found here. It is worth reading the guidance to check and see if you are being targeted by this if you receive any calls, letters or emails purporting to be from Companies House before you act.
