Backhouse Jones are delighted to announce that Lucy Grainger and Kai Leyland have qualified as solicitors into the Regulatory and Dispute Resolution teams respectively.
Lucy has recently been cited as a “Sub 36 Shining Young Star Shaping our Future” in the Lancashire Business View’s Sub 36 feature. She has always had an interest in the justice system and originally wanted to be a pathologist. Lucy eventually decided that her skills would be better put to use as a solicitor. She carried out voluntary work in legal centres and at an orphanage and eventually decided on helping people in the road transport sector which is how she ended up at the specialist road transport firm Backhouse Jones.
Kai originally planned to become a professional sports person. He played football at academy level for Bolton Wanderers FC. After finishing his degree at Liverpool University, Kai decided to hang up his football boots and to become a solicitor and the road transport sector has been a great fit for him.
Both started as paralegals at the firm and progressed towards their training contracts back in September 2022. During those training contracts both gained experience in Regulatory, Commercial Litigation, Insurance Litigation and Employment Law.
Lucy will be focussing on Traffic Commissioner public inquiries, Magistrate Court work, HSE investigations, Crown Court matters, corporate manslaughter, coroner’s inquests and police interviews.
Kai will be handling transport focussed commercial disputes and has developed a special interest in handling clandestine entrant appeals and Civil Penalty Accreditation Scheme applications.
