HGV levy restarts 1 August 2023.
You need to pay the HGV levy to drive an HGV over 12,000kg on a motorway or ‘A’ road in the UK. You must pay the levy before you drive in the UK.
How much do I need to pay?
The way the levy is calculated is changing. From 1 August 223, the amount you need to pay depends on the:
Previously, the levy paid varied according to weight, number of axles and Euro standard.
You can pay a daily, weekly, monthly or yearly rate depending on how long the journey will last. A day runs from 12:00am (midnight) to 11:59pm that same day. You can find the HGV levy rates from 1 August 2023 here.
Non-UK heavy goods vehicles
Non-UK heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) can use the service here now to pay the levy for trips they will make on or after 1 August 2023.
HGVs registered in the UK
For vehicles registered in the UK, the levy must be paid either every year (annually) or every 6 months. You will need to pay the levy alongside the vehicle excise duty (VED).
