The Department for Transport (DfT) launched a consultation recently in respect of the replacement HGV levy, in which carbon dioxide emissions, estimated according to the weight of the vehicle, are taken into account.
The consultation seeks your views on the proposal which would replace the currently suspended HGV levy with a system to include the weight of the HGV; this will be used to approximate the CO2 emissions of the vehicle and pollutants emitted.
For foreign vehicles, the Government is considering reforming the charge so that liability is as closely aligned as possible to when a foreign vehicle is used on a road.
The DfT believes that adding emissions, will help operators with newer, cleaner vehicles as the consultation claims these vehicles will pay less than the current levy charge.
The consultation also asks if members would wish the current levy to be reinstated unaltered.
The consultation document to be filled in and with background and you have until 18 July to have your say here.
