The EU drivers’ hours relaxations – that were introduced as a temporary measure to keep supply chains moving throughout the COVID-19 pandemic – ended at midnight last night (31 May 2020). From today (1 June 2020), normal drivers’ hours rules therefore apply.
You must ensure that, if you have relied on any of the relaxations at any point, your analysis of your drivers’ hours data and the required accompanying manual records is comprehensive and properly documented.
Your current analysis software will not be configured to take account of the relaxations and will report wholesale infringements where any of those relaxations have been relied on.
You will therefore need to carry out, and document, a detailed review of every infringement to establish whether it is in fact an infringement or whether one of the relaxations applies – and, if so, whether it has been complied with fully (both in terms of the actual rules and the creation of the required manual records).
The Department for Transport has confirmed that the temporary relaxations of the GB drivers’ hours rules will continue for a further two weeks – ending at 23:59 hours on Sunday, 14 June 2020.
