It has come to our attention that a number of hauliers have been contacted by telephone by an individual claiming to be a certified High Court Enforcement Officer. The ‘Officer’ explains they have been instructed to seize goods up to the value of a County Court Judgement (CCJ) entered against the company/individual, months or even years prior to receiving the call.
The ‘Officer’ then gives a time that the seizure of goods will take place. After this, (usually after denying any knowledge of the CCJ) the member then receives a second call from the ‘Officer’ explaining that if they settle for a smaller payment which can be paid immediately over the phone, goods will not be seized but if the member rejects the offer, they will be visited as previously advised. The person making these phone calls is well spoken and to the uninformed individual would seem credible.
Of course not every call you receive relating to a CCJ will be fraudulent, but if you are not aware of Court proceedings or judgment being entered against you, then seek advice from a legal professional immediately before responding to the ‘Officer’ in question. We also advise reporting the matter to Action Fraud https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/; the UK’s national reporting centre for fraud and cybercrime, using the following number 0300 123 2040.
