Following the announcement by the Mayor of London of a new scrappage scheme aimed at heavy commercial vehicles (see our detailed article regarding the scrappage scheme here), the Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT) has expressed some concerns about some of the eligibility criteria for the grant payments of £15,000 available via the scheme.
Specifically, the requirement for the vehicle you want to scrap or retrofit to have been driven within the Greater London Area at least 26 times between 28 March 2020 and 28 September 2020 (for organisations that: (i) are not registered within the Greater London Area; (ii) do not hold a valid Operator’s Licence with an operating centre within the Greater London area; or (iii) do not hold a London Service Permit).
It is understood that TfL may be willing to consider each application on a case by case basis and therefore, even if operators are unable to demonstrate that this requirement has been met, CPT are encouraging members to still apply for grants if, in normal times, this requirement would have been met.
