Confused about what you need to do to comply with the changes in data protection law? Concerned about what has changed since BREXIT or simply need a refresher? If so, this is the eTraining session for you.

The law on data protection changed on 25 May 2018 when the GDPR came into effect. This ushered in a new age of data security and marketing restrictions, one that placed a heavy burden on the shoulders of businesses that keep personal information and brought in strict penalties for breaching the rules.

Data protection laws now have real teeth and as well as issuing maximum fines of £17.5 million or 4% of annual global turnover – whichever is greater. There are also other penalties which supervisory authorities such as the UK’s ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office) can impose such as:

  • Warnings and reprimands.
  • Temporary or permanent bans on data processing.
  • Rectification, restrictions or erasure of data.
  • Suspending data transfers to third countries.

During this eTraining session you will learn about:

  • The different types of data.
  • Recognising the six principles.
  • Understanding how to safely handle sensitive data.
  • The rights of data subjects.
  • The responsibilities of the information commissioner.
  • Handling employee data.
  • Which documents you need to have in place in your HR files and on your website.

If you think data protection isn’t relevant to you, think again. Whether it’s employee or customer information you are holding, you can’t hide from it.
