Having previously faced off on the Rugby pitch playing for their respective universities as fierce varsity rivals, Joshua a graduate of The University of Central Lancashire, and Patrick a graduate of Lancaster University, were brought together in 2017 having successfully acquired their Law Degrees.
Working side-by-side, the pair joined Backhouse Jones’ Commercial Litigation Department as Paralegals and worked as part of the team handling the RHA’s Truck Cartel Legal Action. Work that saw both Joshua and Patrick rewarded with training contracts commencing in September 2018 and March 2019. During those training contracts, both undertook training within the different departments of Backhouse Jones, namely, Commercial Litigation, Employment, Road Regulatory, Corporate and Commercial, and Insurance Litigation.
Fast forward to 2020 – Backhouse Jones is proud to announce the qualification and retention of the pair. Joshua will be practising as a Solicitor in the Commercial Litigation Department, taking with him a plethora of experience in dealing with litigated civil matters. Meanwhile, Patrick will be entering the Road Regulatory Department, utilising advocacy skills in Public Inquiries acquired in training to be both a Solicitor and an Unregistered Barrister, called to the Bar in 2018.
Speaking about their training at Backhouse Jones, both were thankful and flattering of the varying range of engaging and high-level expertise they had acquired; assisting on projects such as the aforementioned Truck Cartel Case, the Brexit Tour of October 2019, BHJ’s Annual Seminars and the Commercial Vehicle Shows. One of the many lessons the duo said they would take away from their experiences is a confidence to take on something new and to not be afraid to put your hand up and volunteer for something seemingly unfamiliar.
