HEAD OF CORPORATE / PROPERTY

Backhouse Jones completes another acquisition

Brett qualified as a solicitor in 2009 and has undertaken a broad range or corporate transactional and commercial work since then.

Since joining Backhouse Jones in 2017 he has dealt primarily with the sale and purchase of transport companies and advising these businesses on how a sale affects the transport operation and the operator’s licence.  He has also advised a number of trade organisations on their standard terms of business including redrafting them where necessary.  Brett has redrafted the 2020 RHA Conditions of Carriage, the BAR T&CS and the Cold Chain Federation Conditions of Carriage and Storage.  This work gives him and his team a deep insight into the issues faced by the operators using these conditions, and gives the commercial team a distinct advantage in negotiating bespoke terms and conditions and warehousing and distribution agreements.  His family also  own a small café and deli in Morecambe which gives him a unique insight into those who own and operate an SME, especially during the most difficult of trading times.

Brett also has general oversight of the firm’s commercial property team, who specialise in drafting and negotiating commercial leases, in particular transport depots and operator yards.

Having previously worked at a law firm in Cumbria which was originally founded by Beatrix Potter’s husband, Brett became a “Dogsbody” to assist in the training of search and rescue dogs.

Brett is married to Ester and is father to Sophie and Oliver.  Brett enjoys fell-walking and taking his kids and border collie on walks around local nature reserves.
